Apple's Decision on Hardware Replacements
According to a recent Bloomberg News report, Apple's customer service teams received an internal memorandum stating that hardware replacements for out-of-warranty models dating back to the Apple Watch Series 6 will be discontinued.
Patent Dispute Impacting Model Sales
The tech giant is currently embroiled in a patent disagreement concerning technology utilised in the latest versions of its Apple Watch. Consequently, Apple announced earlier this week that it would cease sales of the Series 9 and Ultra 2 smartwatches in America. The dispute relates to the technology underpinning the blood oxygen feature on the devices.
Parameters of Apple's Customer Support
Bloomberg News reported that should customers encounter issues such as a cracked screen, no support from Apple will be forthcoming for physical fixes. However, the company will provide assistance with software-related problems, like operating system reinstallation for instance.
Details of Communication with Affected Customers
The report indicates that company representatives are instructed to inform those affected that they will be reached out to as soon as hardware replacements are permitted again. Apple has yet to comment on these findings.
