In one of the previous articles, we presented that life isn’t just about sitting in front of your computer screen, and that you should find a hobby that will help you relax and take your mind off trading.
From a very young age most of us have hobbies. We can agree that everyone should choose their own hobbies according to what they like and what they find fulfilling.
Despite that, we include below some hobbies that could help a trader relax and develop the much needed skills as well.
Reading
More specifically, reading about (not only) trading. You can read a few technical analysis textbooks, but there is a good chance that you’ll come into a phase when you’ll find every new book annoying instead of enriching.
Some like to read books related to trading, like the biographies of successful traders, stories from the trading environment or books about psychology or the history of trading.
The important thing is that with every book, you get new ideas and knowledge. You can feel more educated and that can help your self-esteem.
Moreover, many books are written in an entertaining way, and when the topic’s not complicated, they can get some positivity into you.
Stargazing
Have you ever tried to look at the stars through astronomy binoculars or a telescope? It’s incredible.
When you look closely at all the different star formations, it’s almost unbelievable how many of them there are in the sky.
By discovering and watching them on a regular basis, you’ll train your imagination, which can come in handy and make identifying patterns in charts much easier.
Jigsaw Puzzles
It makes sense that putting together various types of puzzles frequently improves your visual imagination, which can be utilized when reading and analyzing charts and identifying patterns.
Playing an instrument
Music is a form of art and before you get really good at playing an instrument, it usually takes a while. To master it, you have to be precise, consistent in learning (practicing) and also very patient.
The same three things are essential in trading, because everyone (who has traded for longer than a few weeks) knows that there are no shortcuts.
Music also influences our mood and focus significantly. It can calm our nerves after a long, hard day.
Sports
The purpose of having a hobby is doing an activity that can help you relax, clear your mind and think about something other than work. Sports are very good for that, and they’re also good for our health and physical condition.
They are crucial if you sit at a computer screen often, whether it’s when trading or at work. Sports games and activities help you develop qualities that can help you in trading and in life.
No matter what your hobby is, it’s good to have one and to relax every now and then so that you can work long term without it taking a toll on you.
Feel free to share in the comments below your tips on what you like to do in your free time and how.
